My Day on Quilt Qwazy Queens

How are you all doing? I trust you are being socially responsible and isolating yourself in your sewing rooms? It sure feels like that’s all I have been doing besides normal housework and chores. I have found I’ve been spending more time on line than I usually do, but who can resist seeing what everyone has posted for the Making Us Laugh Hop!

When the theme of the hop was announced no one knew that our world was going to be turned upside down and the need for laughter would be so important to us all.

I started off with several ideas and then remembered at kit I had bought a few years ago that had way too much fabric in it so I had leftovers! Isn’t that a great problem to have? I did some searching and found the pattern and scraps all together in a bag.

All these are leftover scraps!

I cut, pieced, sewed and fondled these fabrics. They sure brought a smile to my face! That pile morphed into this:

Appliqué Fun!

My flimsy was finished so I sandwiched it and started to quilt. Changing thread colours and choosing the perfect one is always a big part of the fun. Then I hit a snag. I didn’t have the right colour and under the circumstances I knew it would take a while for the ordered thread to come. So I’m going to show this quilt in an unfinished state after all of the sneak peeks I’ve been sharing.

I’m really starting to enjoy appliqué

I was disappointed that I didn’t have a finish, but was working on my project for the Project Quilting 11.6 Challenge and couldn’t quite settle on one idea. Then it came to me:

I Love Squirrels and Everyone Know It!

I looked on line at Fandom In Stitches and found the perfect paper piecing project. I cut and flipped and trimmed and sewed and finished a squirrel for my wall. This finishes at 12” x 14” and was so much fun to make. Do you have those squirrels hanging around? I sure have them visiting me on a regular basis. In fact, one squirrel wasn’t enough, so while I was quilting this I shortened my stitches and did some thread painting while I was at it.

Can you see the squirrel with wee bits of paper stuck in the stitches?

And this one also;

Not perfect, but I was laughing my head off as I was playing!

So there you have it. My contribution to the eye candy being shared by 31 bloggers. Stop by their blogs to see what they have done and leave a comment telling them if you laughed out loud, chuckled or just giggled a bit at their attempts to Make You Laugh!

  1. Hi Carol, Your flimsy is great!! I’m amazed that you are starting to like applique! In the past, I have always called it “CRAP-lique! But it’s getting ok …

  2. Oh my goodness I love your “stash busting” robot. Nothing is more fun than stash busting to me. You squirrel is just too cute. I’ve got a friend that is squirrel crazy so I might just pop over to Fandom! Thanks for joining us and inspiring us to do some stash busting ourselves we are all safely at home.

  3. Hi Carol! What a fun project for this hop . . . but your paper-pieced squirrel made me laugh right out loud. PERFECT! How fun to use up some leftover fabric from another project – that is a nice problem to have. That made this project mostly free! Stay healthy and safe. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Two wonderful quilts for the price of one admission! I love robots and this one is queen of the heap … or king, whichever it chooses to be. Even unfinished, it made me laugh. And that squirrel! It reminded me of a friend’s constant battle with squirrels and the birdfeeder hanging 20 ft. off the ground next to her deck. Those are creative little climbers!

  7. Laughing at that paper stuck in the quilting is wonderful; I’m so afraid I might have just been crying. 😦 Loved the first project, too. Having too much fabric in a kit is amazing – usually they are spot on. One kit I bought was SHORT with one of the fabrics – now that was no laughing matter!

    • Oh no! It’s so hard to finish if you run short of fabric! So happy I could make you laugh even if picking the bits out of the stitches wasn’t make me laugh! Playing with the quilting did though! Thanks for your comment! 😉

  8. Love the robot. That was an awful lot of left overs to play with yahoo. I live in a relatively new area and have only seen 1 or 2 squirrels since we’ve been here (6 years) I was from an area that had lots and lots of them. I do miss the little guys.

  10. I adore your robot! Love the squirrel too. Thanks for sharing, and have fun social distancing with your fabric stash. It would really stink to not have a hobby right now, wouldn’t it?

    • I’m starting to worry. I only have approx 100 yards left in the stash! Whatever will I do if we are quarantined for more than 4 more weeks? Glad you enjoyed Robbie and the squirrel😉 Carol
